Tyler, The Creator has always had a loyal fan base, so it wasn’t surprising that releasing his Cherry Bomb album on short notice resulted in excitement and urged the already-loyal fans to purchase the album. Since it’s been on the market for one week now, it’s time to take a look at how it stacked up against the competition.
Cherry Bomb moved over 58,000 units in its first week, placing it at number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Roughly 51,000 of the copies were bought in traditional form, while the other 7-8k were from streams. No other rappers were in the top 5 this week.
On the other hand, Young Thug’s Barter 6 mixtape (yes, mixtape) sold 19,000 units in its first week. Not bad, especially for a digital-only release. Thug’s debut album, Hy!£UN35, is up next.
Congrats to both artists!
