Here at CSHH we like to mix things up a bit. Instead of bringing you new music all the time, we thought it’d be a nice breath of fresh air to feature a song from the 2000s (or earlier) each week in a segment called Throwback Thursday.
For the first installment, we’re going to be talking about T.I.‘s legendary What You Know single. The song, which served as the lead single from his fourth studio album King, solidified Tip’s appeal to both the trap and mainstream audiences. It was truly a song like no other and it was recognized appropriately. The single won a Grammy for “Best Rap Solo Performance” in 2007 and went on to sell more than 2 million copies – making it certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
The song also serves as the theme song for the 2006 film ATL, in which T.I. plays the main character Rashad. The movie went on to win “Best Hip Hop Movie” at the 2006 BET Awards and was nominated in numerous other award shows.
What You Know is one of T.I.’s most critically acclaimed songs to date and it still sounds just as good as it did the first time, almost a full decade later.
Stay tuned for next week’s Throwback Thursday segment!
