Frank Ocean’s classic album Channel ORANGE won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album back in 2013, but his follow-up, Blonde, will not be eligible for a Grammy next year. Nor will his visual album, Endless.
According to Billboard, Frank never submitted the albums for consideration and since he missed the deadline, there is now no way it can be considered for the 2017 Grammys.
We are guessing that Frank did this intentionally but the motive is still unknown. This claim is backed up by a source close to the situation confirming that Ocean’s team was aware of the deadlines.
“Whether the album was intentionally not submitted for the Grammys or an oversight took place — which may have been the case last year with Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” which also was not submitted — was unclear at press time, although a source close to the situation tells Billboard that Ocean’s team was aware of the deadlines and made the decision. “
Regardless of a Grammy nomination, Blonde is one of the best albums of 2016.
