Hip-Hop is definitely making a name for itself on the Billboard charts so far this year and Rick Ross is the latest artist to contribute to that statement. According to HDD, Rick Ross’ Mastermind album sold 184,726 copies in its first week and topped out Pharrell’s G I R L album, which sold 110,090 copies in its first week. A lot of good albums have been released within the past two weeks but are the sales numbers as high as the artists hoped for? Last week, Schoolboy Q released his debut album Oxymoron and Kid Cudi released his 4th studio album Satellite Flight. As expected, Schoolboy Q sold more copies and landed himself at the #1 spot on the Billboard charts with 138,517 copies sold. Meanwhile, Cudi came in at #4 with 85,860 copies of the LP sold.

After numerous delays and thoughts that it would never come, Chris Brown has finally announced a new, reasonable release date for his next studio album, X. Breezy took to his Twitter account to reveal that the new release date is set for May 5th. In the tweet, which can be seen below, he says: ““X” is by far my best album yet…. Setting the date for MAY 5.“ Hopefully we get a new single soon!
If you live in Canada or plan on going to the OVO Fest this year, here is the news you have been waiting for! Drake has just announced that the 5th annual OVO Fest will take place at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on August 3rd and 4th. On the first night, August 3rd, Drake has revealed that one of the special guests will be Outkast! No surprise guests for the second night have been revealed just yet but we all know it will be some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop.
Tickets for the two-day festival will go on sale this Friday, February 21st on Live Nation.
A couple of days ago there were rumors spreading that Lil Wayne’s next studio album Tha Carter V will be getting the surprise release treatment, similar to Beyonce’s recently released self-titled album. Now those rumors can be put to rest, as Weezy and Drake have both announced that the LP will be released on May 5th while performing at the House Of Blues out in New Orleans tonight. We can expect further details to arise in the coming weeks/months.
In the meantime, don’t forget that the Young Money compilation album, Young Money: Rise of an Empire, will be released on March 11th.
