Hip-Hop is the most diverse and fast-paced (in terms of content releases) genre of music on the planet, and since there is so much content, many people don’t bother looking for new artists to familiarize themselves with. When the consumer’s favorite artist is putting out new music on a bi-weekly basis, why should they take the time to check for other, unknown artists? Whether they just simply overlook the content while scrolling past it on social media, or they just have their mind set on a particular batch of artists, the new, upcoming artists in 2014 are not getting as much exposure as previous years and it’s mainly due to over-saturation.
Let me tell you a quick story. I had some friends over at my place one day and, as usual, I played some music on the loud speakers for everyone to hear. During that specific time, I played songs from 3 artists that none of my friends had ever heard of – and these are people who know hip-hop and listen to it daily. After introducing the artists, I also mentioned that they need to get familiar with the artist(s) because it’s only a matter of time before they blow up. Right when those words came out of my mouth, I instantly realized that there are plenty of others out there just like them. The point is, people want to hear new artists but they don’t want to take the time to search for them.
Who wants to the listen to the same artists over and over and over again? I know I don’t, which is why I will be helping you expand your iTunes library by giving you some insight on some up-and-coming rappers you’ll surely get into! Let’s get started!
